Central City - Idaho Springs

Mine shaft and elevator near Idaho Springs The Central City - Idaho Springs mining district is located in both Gilpin and Clear Creek Counties. These two mining districts are grouped together in reflection of their sharing of a single series of ore bodies. This district contains numerous major lode and placer deposits, as well as uranium. The Atomic Energy Commission did some of its first uranium exploration in this district in Clear Creek County.
