Colorado's generated oil and gas revenue from 2000 through 2011.  Natural gas peaked in 2008 at $11 billion with high gas prices.  More recently increased oil production from the Niobrara combined with high oil prices and low gas prices in putting Colorado's crude oil within range of overtaking natural gas as the most valuable energy resource in the state.

Estimated revenue generated by oil and gas production by county in 2011.  Weld and Garfield counties account for 60% of total value (~$6.4 billion).  Garfield county, producing mostly natural gas, would surpass Weld county for the top spot if natural gas prices return to above $4/Mcf and oil prices remain below $100/barrel.
