Geology of our Location
The Centennial Building in which the Colorado Geological Survey is housed, sits on Quaternary Windblown Sand (Qes, Holocene to Upper Pleistocene) on top of the Denver Formation (TKd, Paleocene and Upper Cretaceous). The Denver Formation consists of claystone, siltstone, sandstone and conglomerate composed primarily of altered andesitic (volcanic) debris. CGS is in the Centennial Building at the middle bottom of the image.
